In Hazaribagh, daughters are proving to be no less than sons. They are eager to play a vital role in safeguarding the nation’s borders. Three daughters from a family in Bishnugarh block of Hazaribagh are setting an inspiring example by joining the Border Security Force (BSF). Recently, two of them received their appointment letters during a job fair at the BSF Meru Center, while their elder sister is already serving in the BSF. Receiving the appointment letters has filled the two sisters with immense pride, and they express their joy, saying, “Now, we will be known by our names.”
A Journey of Determination and Sacrifice
The story of Preet Singh Rajput and Pummy Kumari is a testament to dedication and perseverance. Despite societal and familial hardships, they achieved their dream of serving the nation. Preet shares that she grew up with four sisters and one brother, and their family faced constant discrimination for having more daughters. Poverty added to their struggles, forcing her to discontinue formal education. However, she managed to complete her matriculation privately while tutoring to support her family.
Driven by a passion to serve the nation, Preet utilized online classes via mobile and prepared rigorously, often hiding her physical training sessions from her family. Her efforts bore fruit when she received her appointment letter from Union Minister Annapurna Devi at the job fair.
Preet’s twin sister, Pummy Kumari, also succeeded in securing a position in the BSF. The entire village is celebrating their success, as they are the first daughters from the community to achieve such a feat.
A Husband’s Support and Society’s Resistance
Pummy Kumari’s journey is equally inspiring. Despite being married and having a 1.5-year-old child, she did not give up on her dream. Her husband played a crucial role by secretly taking her to a forest at 4 a.m. for physical training to avoid societal backlash. When villagers found out, they strongly opposed her efforts, but she remained undeterred. Balancing household responsibilities, late-night studies, and early morning physical training became her routine, ultimately leading her to success.
A Message of Empowerment
At the appointment ceremony, Pummy’s husband stayed home to take care of their child while her brother accompanied her. With tears of joy, she shared her gratitude towards her husband’s support. Both sisters believe that even today, society restricts the freedom of daughters, binding them with conservative norms. They emphasize that daughters are often identified through their fathers or husbands, but now, the three sisters have earned recognition in their own names.
These women are not only achieving their dreams but also serving as a beacon of inspiration for others. Their determination and hard work challenge societal stereotypes and inspire countless others to pursue their ambitions against all odds.
